Montpellier Satellite continues with home duos still targeting semifinal spot
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Montpellier

Montpellier, France, June 7, 2013. The Main Draw of the inaugural CEV Satellite tournament in Montpellier got started on Friday morning and some early decisions were made at least for the duos that – via two consecutive wins – advanced directly to the 1/4 finals. The four pairs that made it to round 3 of the men’s tournament are Böckermann/Urbatzka (GER), Kufa/Hadrava (CZE), Monfort/Lario (ESP), and Giginoglu/Sekerci (TUR). In the women’s tournament that same feat was achieved by Dampney/Boulton (ENG), Laboureur/Sude and Mersmann/Grossner (GER), as well as by Poland’s Kolosinska/Brzostek.
The teams that suffered two defeats on Friday had to settle for 13th place in the final standing.
The Main Draw will continue through Saturday thereby determining the grid for the semis scheduled for Sunday morning. The competition will come to a close on Sunday afternoon with the classification and final matches. The CEV Satellite tournament in Montpellier is drawing much attention from the international Beach Volleyball family for an innovative scoring system is being tested for the first time. Matches are played in a “best of five” format with each set up to 11 points (in case of a tie at 10 this must be broken by a 2-point lead).

As for the home teams, France’s ladies are already eliminated from the competition while in the men’s tournament Yannick Salvetti and Jean-Baptiste Daguerre caused the sensation of the day as they ousted Olympic bronze medalist Martins Plavins and his new partner Janis Peda 3-2 (22-20, 11-9, 5-11, 5-11, and 11-5). After losing to Giginoglu/Sekerci in round 2, they re-started their campaign from the losers’ bracket beating 3-0 Andreas and Roman Sutter of Switzerland to stay in contention for a good result. With two wins out of three matches Andy Cès and partner Edouard Rowlandson are also performing well and have their eye set on the semis.
