Country Quota set the tone for Beach Volleyball fiesta in Antalya

Antalya, Turkey, April 2, 2013. The first day of the CEV Satellite tournament running this week in Antalya was completed on Tuesday with the Country-Quota matches. The venue of this year’s opening tournament – the beach situated right next to the Side Star Hotel – was well prepared to welcome a good share of Europe’s Beach Volleyball elite with 8 courts set up there.
After the Country-Quota matches played on Tuesday, a few teams advanced to the qualification whose start is set for Wednesday morning at 11 am (local time). These teams are: Kunert/Petutschnig (AUT), Kissling/Kissling and Gerson/Prawdzic (SUI), Margiev/Velichko and Pastukhov/Khudyakov (RUS), Tvinde/Loftesnes, Retterholt/Mol and Hordvik/Kvamsdal (NOR), van Dorsten/Oude Elferink (NED) and Dittelbach/Flüggen (GER).
In the women’s tournament only teams from Germany were involved in the Country-Quota; Victoria Bieneck/Julia Großner eventually found their way to the qualification after a much contested game with their compatriots Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude (29-27, and 21-25).
The qualification coming up on Wednesday will be played in 6 different courts with the participation of 32 and 14 teams in the men’s and women’s competition respectively. Three duos from the host country – Turkey – will join the tournament on Wednesday while 3 men’s duos and 2 female pairs are set to start their campaign right from the Main Draw where a total of 15,000 € - 7,500 per gender – in prize money will be at stake.
A special clinic was held on Tuesday morning involving 45 referees, line judges and scorers who got familiar with the changes adopted for this year in the rules of the game.
