Top names to highlight CEV Satellite in Lausanne
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger & Satellites
Lausanne, Switzerland, June 6, 2012. The CEV Satellite tournament that is scheduled through June 28-July 1 in Lausanne is attracting a very good starting field thereby paying back the efforts made by the local Organizing Committee that is supported by the VBC Cossonnay and the Sports Department of the local university (UNIL).
Switzerland’s top duo Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda is being joined there by Germany’s David Klemperer and Eric Koreng (pictured), the guys who won the FIVB Grand Slam held in Stavanger, Norway, back in 2010 and finished second that same year in Gstaad. These pairs – ranked 9th last week at the CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship in The Hague – count for a total of 50 podiums in international competitions. Heuscher and Bellaguarda will carry the Swiss hopes for a medal after the local teams failed to make it to the 1/4 finals in the past couple of years.
Austria’s Xandi Huber/Robin Seidl – who finished third last year in Lausanne – have also registered for the tournament together with Norway’s Iver Andreas Horrem/Geir Eithun and Denmark’s Anders and Soeren Hoyer (the latter boasting a fifth place from last year’s World Championship in Rome together with former partner Bo Soderberg). Switzerland will be represented in Lausanne also by Philip Gabathuler and Mirco Gerson who also finished their European campaign in The Hague with a 9th place and will certainly try to extend their so far successful season by performing well also in front of the home audience of Lausanne.
Apart from the tournament, many side events have been foreseen including a breakdance show by KFM Crew on Saturday, June 30, and a charity game on the last day highlighted by the guys from the Lausanne hockey team and humorist Benjamin Cuche.
