Future Beach Volleyball stars show their impressive skills in Antalya
2016 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship

Antalya, Turkey, June 17, 2016. Just like their colleagues from the women’s competition, the men’s teams participating in the 2016 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship finalised their pool play on Friday night. Both teams from Norway, Aleksander Sandlie Sørum/Anders Berntsen Mol and Martin Kløvfjell Olimstad/Jakob Solgaard Thelle claimed the first position in the final standing of their respective pools. Also Poland, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland and The Netherlands secured a spot in the last 16.

Watching the 2016 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship is the best way to see the future Beach Volleyball stars before they make the step to the senior tournaments. For some of the players who are playing in Antalya this step will follow soon, given their sparkling performances on Turkish sand.

Norway can be proud of their four talented male players. Both Norwegian teams ended first in their respective pools, thereby claiming two spots in the second round.

Beside the Norwegians, all the other favourite teams didn’t disappoint so far. The technically skilled players of Poland, Maciej Kaszewiak and Mateusz Paszkowski, ended on top of pool A.

The experienced Germans Julius Thole and Sven Winter lived up to the expectations in pool C after beating teams from Latvia, Denmark and the Czech Republic, all in straight sets.

With an impressive copy of the Kremlin on the background of the venue, Russia’s Vasilii Ivanov and Aleksandr Kramarenko played inspiring Beach Volleyball in Pool D. The Russians only spilled one set so far, in their last pool match against the Swedish team Jacob Link/Jakob Molin.

As perhaps expected, the Ukrainian team of Oleh Plotnytskyi and Tymofii Poluian claimed first place in Pool E. Also the number 1 team in Pool F is not a big surprise. The sympathetic Florian Breer and Yves Haussener from Switzerland absolutely proved they belong to the best European Beach Volleyball players of their generation.

Ruben Penninga and Mees Blom from the Netherlands just heard a few weeks ago that the head coach of the Dutch Beach Volleyball team wants to keep them in the national programme next year. This news gave the ambitious players such a boost of confidence, that they convincingly cruised through their pool.

On Saturday morning the knock-out phase will start with the first-round matches. Later in the day, the second-round matches and the quarter-finals will follow.
