Teams from Belgium and Greece make semis at Skopje Satellite

Skopje, Former Y.R. of Macedonia, August 22, 2015. On Saturday Greece’s Georgios Kotsilianos and Nikos Zoupanis progressed to the semis of the inaugural CEV Satellite in Skopje living up to their status of second-seeded tandem in the competition. Kotsilianos and Zoupanis comfortably edged Daniel Bergerud and Svein Oddmund Solhaug of Norway (21-16, 21-15) to claim a spot in the ‘final four’ and will be playing there another Scandinavian duo, Denmark’s Peter Kildegaard and Kristoffer Abell.
After losing their first match of the tournament on Friday, top-seeded Maciej Kosiak and Maciej Rudol of Poland fought their way back through the losers’ bracket and eventually made the semis as well. On Saturday the U23 world champions recorded two straight victories, coming back from behind in their matchup with Switzerland’s Sébastien Chevallier/Marco Krattiger (11-21, 21-17, 15-10) before edging Norway’s Lars Tveit Retterholt and Bjarte Usken 21-16, 21-12. On Sunday morning they eventually booked a spot among the top four beating Bergerud/Solhaug in straight sets too (21-19, 21-14) to shape up a semi-final match with Belgium’s Dries Koekelkoren and Tom Van Walle.
As for the home heroes Darko Angelovski and Risto Klopcheski, the players from the Former Y.R. of Macedonia who were making their debut on the European circuit, they lost on Saturday to twins Bennet and David Poniewaz of Germany (4-21, 9-21) to finish their home campaign in 13th place.
