Beach Volleyball fever in Skopje for first CEV Satellite ever

Skopje, Former Y.R. of Macedonia, August 18, 2015. The city of Skopje is hosting this week the sixth edition of a Beach Volleyball tournament which this year got for the very first time the status of a CEV Satellite. The men’s only event completes the programme of Satellite tournaments on schedule for this summer following previous stops in Molodechno, Vaduz and Timisoara. The tournament will run from Thursday, August 20, trough to Sunday, August 23, with participation of 30 teams from as many as 21 countries, all set to compete at the beautiful venue set up in the city’s ‘Park’ beach.
“It is a real pleasure for the City of Skopje to ascertain that our efforts to stage a CEV sanctioned event have been crowned with success and that the audience will be able to enjoy an attractive, high-quality Beach Volleyball event throughout the coming days,” said the Mayor of Skopje, Koce Trajanovski, while addressing the media on Tuesday. “We will be hosting as many as 30 men’s teams and I am confident that they will be trying to deliver their best performance as they battle for prize money standing at € 8.000,” he added.
“Skopje just got its place on the European Beach Volleyball map. After this tournament was first held back in 2010, from year to year we have raised its standards and quality now making it a Satellite CEV sanctioned event which has attracted the attention of many elite Beach Volleyball teams, including ten of the finest pairs in Europe. We are ready for a great, long Beach Volleyball weekend,” said the Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of the Former Y.R. of Macedonia, Mr Zoran Karanovic.
The qualification round with 22 pairs will be played on Thursday, whereas the start of the main draw – where eight teams are already pre-seeded – will then follow on Friday.
