Skopje to host first CEV Satellite tournament in late August
2015 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Skopje
Luxembourg, May 26, 2015. A fourth Satellite tournament was just added to the programme of the 2015 CEV Beach Volleyball season with a men-only event set to take place from August 20 through 23 in the capital city of the F.Y. Republic of Macedonia, Skopje. This is history in the making since the CEV Satellite will be the first Beach Volleyball competition of such calibre to take place in this country.
Though Macedonia has a long tradition in Volleyball and especially their men’s national team has achieved remarkable results, inter alia making the semis of last year’s CEV Volleyball European League, Beach Volleyball is still in its developing stages there. However, Skopje and the venue where the CEV Satellite will be taking place later this summer have already played host to a successful 2013 edition of the Balkan Senior Beach Volleyball Championships (see picture). A number of age-group Balkan competitions have also already taken place in this country.
The event in Skopje is the fourth Satellite featured on the 2015 calendar, following the women-only tournament scheduled for June 11-14 in Molodechno, Belarus, the double gender Vaduz Satellite (July 8-12) and the competition – open to women’s pairs only – which is slated for August 12-16 in Timisoara, Romania.
“We welcome this valuable addition to our Beach Volleyball calendar,” CEV President André Meyer says, “especially since it helps us broaden our horizons and continue with the our efforts to further promote and develop Beach Volleyball also in those countries where this sport is not yet in the spotlight. I am confident that the people of Skopje will be pleased with the opportunity to witness the actions of some of Europe’s best players and the event will motivate the local youngsters to take up this sport in order to possibly make it, one day, to the continental elite as well.”
