Schillerwein/Tillmann claim pair of matches to open inaugural Timisoara Satellite
2015 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Timisoara
Timisoara, Romania, August 12, 2015. The inaugural edition of the CEV Satellite in Timisoara started on Wednesday afternoon when three German teams fought for a spot in the qualification round that is set to follow on Thursday. Katarina Schillerwein and Cinja Tillmann eventually got that much desired ticket and will continue their campaign with the ambition of making the main draw of the tournament taking place in Romania’s third-largest city.
Schillerwein and Tillmann started their quest edging countrywomen Kim Behrens and Sandra Ittlinger 21-16, 22-20. The second matchup with Katharina Culav and Anna Behlen was a lot closer. Behlen and Culav served extremely well but they could not find a way to stand the effective blocking displayed by Schillerwein and Tillmann who eventually claimed the match by two sets to one (21-16, 14-21, 15-10) and now hope to continue their positive march also in the qualification round.
“I think we have more experience than the other teams and this was quite evident in our first match today,” Cinja Tillmann said. “The second was much tougher, it was a game starring two teams playing at the same level, but I am very glad that we won in the end.”
“We will be doing our best to make the main draw tomorrow,” added partner Katarina Schillerwein. “We had two matches today and the second one was very close. Our opponents served better than we did but in the end our teamwork was enough to seal the victory.”
The competition in Timisoara resumes on Thursday morning at 9am with the start of the qualification round with eight spots at stake to join the main draw that will follow then on Friday.
