Seven days to largest Beach Volleyball party ever held on Baltic coast
2015 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship - Jurmala Masters
Jurmala, Latvia, May 14, 2015. It’s only seven days to go before Europe’s Beach Volleyball elite travels to Jurmala for the first stop of this year’s CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship. The Jurmala Masters is set to take place from May 20 through 24 on Majori beach of Latvia’s most popular seaside resort. This is – by far – the largest and most important Beach Volleyball tournament ever organised on the Baltic coast, with both FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and CEV President André Meyer having also confirmed their attendance.
As many as 75 Beach Volleyball players from 25 different countries are set to compete at the Jurmala Masters next week. The list includes Latvia’s eight strongest teams as well as duos from Germany, Italy, Estonia, Austria, Russia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, France, Norway, Poland and some more countries.
It’s not just about the elite tournament which is due to take place there in Jurmala as the organisers have prepared much more including group training sessions, a much anticipated players’ party, as well as various activities focussing on children and youth players. A magnificent centre court is being set up right by the sea (see picture) with a capacity of 2,330 seats and the organisers have announced that entrance to the tournament will be available for free for the first three days of the competition. On top of this, on May 19, 20 and 21 group training sessions will be available for adults and children under the supervision of Latvia’s best Beach Volleyball players.
The traditional players’ party is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, and everyone is invited to attend free of charge to spend some time and chat with Europe’s Beach Volleyball elite. On that same day the opening festival for the summer season of Latvia’s largest seaside resort will take place, with an extensive cultural and entertainment programme. The festival’s parade will reach its climax right at the venue of the Jurmala Masters.
The invitation to join and attend the tournament is addressed not only to Beach Volleyball fans but also to those who have little knowledge of this sport. The organisers have prepared various forms of entertainment including contests and other events, with a focus on children. The crowd will also be encouraged to join dancing and other acts in order to cheer their players on.
The entrance to the venue will be free of charge for the Country Quota playoffs as well as for the qualification (May 19-22), whilst for the last couple of days – where the tournament will be reaching its climax, both on and off the court – tickets have to be bought in advance via the Biļešu serviss ticket counters throughout Latvia or through the following website: www.bilesuserviss.lv
The city of Jurmala – Latvia’s most popular seaside resort – is playing host to an international competition for the second straight season. Last year in late August the CEV Jurmala Satellite gathered more than 2,000 fans in the stadium set up by the Baltic Sea. The winners of the 2013 and 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour – Latvia’s Janis Smedins and Aleksandrs Samoilovs – eventually claimed an all-Latvian final before a sell-out crowd as they edged their young compatriots Haralds Regza and Armands Abolins, former silver medallists from the U20 European Championships. Russia’s Maksim Khudyakov and Yury Bogatov completed the podium settling for the bronze medal.
