Second win for Swiss rising stars Breer/Haussener at #EuroBeachVolleyU20
2015 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Larnaka, Cyprus, September 3, 2015. The Swiss duo of Florian Breer and Yves Haussener arrived in Larnaka having finished third at the U18 European Championship in Riga, Latvia, only a few weeks ago. This, according to the players, is helping them a lot as far as the Cyprus tournament is concerned. “Riga was a lucky place for us both and claiming third position was more like a victory for us as it helped our psychology a great deal,” said Breer.
The Swiss players – who last year won gold at the inaugural FIVB U17 World Championship in Acapulco, Mexico – had no difficulty overcoming, Thursday morning, the obstacle of their Slovenian opponents Alan Košenina and Gasper Plahutnik 2-0 (21-14, 21-16). This was their second win in as many games in Pool H, having yesterday claimed the scalp of the Romanians Lucian Badiceanu and Ioan Marius Rosu by a similar score line (21-12, 21-15).
“Our biggest test so far in this event will be our next match against the Latvians. What we have achieved so far will have no meaning if we lose in the afternoon. We must try to stay focussed and play exactly the same as we played in our first two encounters. If we do that, then we will have no problem,” said Haussener.
