Riga prepares perfect stage for Europe’s Beach Volleyball stars in the making
2015 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championships
Riga, Latvia, July 14, 2015. It’s only three weeks from now and Latvia’s capital city Riga will be playing host to this year’s CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championships. The event will be taking place at the Beach Box Elkor stadium from August 6 through 9.
It is the first time that such large-scale international Beach Volleyball tournament is taking place in Latvia and in its capital city. As many as 64 pairs – 32 per gender – from 30 European countries will participate in the tournament.
The President of the Volleyball Federation of Latvia Atis Sausnitis hopes that the stars in the making of Beach Volleyball in Europe will get only positive emotions from their stay in Riga: “I encourage everyone to visit this championship and to support not only the Latvian teams, but also the players from all other countries so that these young players will be taking home only good and positive emotions from their time in Riga. Of course I hope that our players will be making the podium and get those medals that shine the brightest, this is what I am wishing to each and every player that will be representing our country in this competition.”
The tournament at the Beach Volleyball stadium Beach Box Elkor will take place on four courts, with another two being set up for the warm up. Especially for the Championships the organisers will provide stands with a capacity of up to 1,000 seats to follow the matches on the centre court while bleaches accommodating another 300 fans will be available on court 2.
The competition will start on August 6-7 with the pool phase before the single elimination follows on August 8 for 24 teams per gender. The tournament will continue all the way through the semis and medal matches that will crown this year’s U18 European champions on Sunday, August 9.
As the host country, Latvia will be represented by three teams per gender, including the bronze medallists from last year’s FIVB U17 Beach Volleyball World Championships, Tina Graudina and Linda Gramberga (pictured). Next to the tournament and the much anticipated battle for the medals, the fans will be able to join various contests and activities, which will be announced when it gets closer to the start of the competition. The entrance to the competition venue will be free of charge for the entire duration of the championship.
“This is the third major European Beach Volleyball competition which is taking place in Latvia in two years. This couldn’t happen without the trust shown by the CEV in our ability to host such large-scale event and secondly without the support of government, therefore I would like to thank the National Sports Council which has taken the right and illuminate decision for this championship to take place here in Latvia. My gratitude goes out also to all others who support Volleyball in our country and have been with us in the delivery of this championship,” Mr Sausnitis continues.
LDz Ritošā Sastāva Serviss is the main partner of the championship that will be organised with the support of the Riga City Council and many other companies. Supporting sport as the cornerstone for a healthy lifestyle ERGO has become the official insurer of the 2015 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championships in Riga, thereby allowing all athletes to participate in the competition without any further concerns than their performance on sand.
