Baku 2015 launch Games Experience Programmes
2015 European Games

Baku, Azerbaijan, June 20, 2015. Baku 2015 European Games today launched their innovative Games Experience Programmes for 61 representatives of major events that will be staged across the globe in the next seven years.

The group will be in the Azerbaijan capital for eight days and visit many of the 18 Baku 2015 venues and experience the first ever European Games at first hand. The programmes will be tailored to the requirement of each group and will also showcase the city and culture of Baku.

Gavin McAlpine, the Baku 2015 Director of Operational Capability and Readiness who was the mastermind behind the programme, said: “In line with the Baku 2015 desire to innovate we charged ourselves with how we could redefine the overall ‘observer’ programme and make it a much more interactive experience.

“We wanted people to come and learn by actually taking part in the event rather than being a passive by-stander and these ground-breaking programmes have attracted people from across not only the Olympic movement but also the FIFA World Cup and other major events from every continent in the world.

“The 61 delegates will take part in a packed programme providing access to international experts who have managed to create the world class inaugural European Games in less than 30 months.

“A behind-the-scenes insight into the day-to-day functioning of the European Games will also be provided and we are also creating an environment for the exchange of best practice ideas and innovation around major events.”

Among the events that have sent delegates to Baku 2015 include the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro; the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

There are representatives from 16 different sporting organisations with a selection of those being FIFA World Cups of Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, the Wroclaw 2017 World Games, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017, Tsukuba International Academy for Sports Studies Tokyo and the 2016 World Chess Olympiad, which will also be held in Baku.
