23/04/2014 07:00 Teams from Austria and Germany top entry lists of CEV season opener in Antalya 2014 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellites - Antalya Luxembourg, April 22, 2014. Austria’s Clemens Doppler / Alexander Horst (pictured) and Germany’s Victoria Bieneck / Julia Grossner top the entry lists of the CEV Satellite in Antalya, the season opener which is scheduled to take place from May 6 through 10 in Turkey’s most popular and visited seaside resort. The city of Antalya will be hosting a CEV Satellite tournament for the second straight year and the event will be a sort of warm-up for the final stage of the inaugural CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup that will follow only a few days later. After suffering a shocking injury at last year’s European Championship in Klagenfurt, two-time European champion Clemens Doppler is hoping to return in action with partner Alexander Horst by the time Antalya hosts the CEV season opener in early May. 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Martins Plavins is among those set to compete in Antalya as well, alongside partner Aleksandrs Sovolejs, with whom he claimed silver at last year’s FIVB Open in Durban, South Africa. Another team to watch out for will be home heroes Selcuk Sekerci and Murat Giginoglu, as well as Austria’s Daniel Müllner and Jörg Wutzl. Teams from as many as 21 countries have registered for the competition. The women’s entry lists are topped by Germany’s Victoria Bieneck and Julia Grossner who will try to improve on the fourth place they had to be content with last year. Their toughest competitor are expected to be Finland’s twins Emilia and Erika Nyström but young teams from Russia, Austria and the Netherlands may have an impact as well. Lithuania’s young stars Monika Povilaityte and Ieva Dumbauskaite are set to travel to Antalya as well and will try to show they are a force to be reckoned with as well after winning a bunch of medals at various age-group World and European Championships.
