CEV President visits Antalya Satellite, praises organisers’ work
News from the CEV
Antalya, Turkey, May 8, 2014. On Thursday CEV President André Meyer paid visit to the CEV Satellite tournament in Antalya that got underway yesterday and continued today with the first round of matches for the Main Draw. President Meyer is currently in Turkey to inspect the venue proposed by the Turkish Volleyball Federation to host the XXXV CEV General Assembly coming up later this year.
“Though today’s matches were played under difficult weather conditions, I was very impressed by the quality of the local organisation,” the CEV President said. “It is only the second year that the city of Antalya and more specifically this venue are playing host to a Satellite tournament, but they already can be proud of the level they have achieved. Once more Turkey confirms its status and role as one of the countries where Volleyball and Beach Volleyball are being most extensively promoted. Every time we come back to this country, we get to see and realise that the organisers have moved up to the next level.”
After an indoor event held last January in Anapa, Russia, the CEV Satellite in Antalya is the “real” opening event of a season that will feature a record-breaking number of Beach Volleyball tournaments officially sanctioned by CEV. “The organisers have set up three Beach Volleyball courts here and are providing players with the best conditions to express their potential and continue with their development. Of course the weather could have been better but we are confident that the sun will be shining once the finals are played on Saturday,” Mr. Meyer joked as heavy rain was pouring down on Thursday afternoon.
The CEV President was accompanied by Turkish Volleyball Federation President Özkan Mutlugil as well as by members of the local Organising Committee during his visit of the venue set up nearby the WOW Kremlin Hotel in Turkey’s most popular seaside resort. “Turkey is doing an excellent job at every level and CEV is grateful to the Turkish Federation for their commitment and hard work,” Mr. Meyer concluded.
