Jurmala gears up to host CEV Satellite, plans to turn Beach Volleyball into its main attraction

Jurmala, Latvia, July 16, 2014. One of the rising powers in Beach Volleyball, Latvia will be hosting later this summer a first international tournament, namely the CEV Satellite which is due to take place through August 28-31 in Jurmala, the country’s most popular seaside resort. The venue of the tournament was checked last July 14-15 by the appointed CEV Technical Supervisor, Anton Fichtinger from Austria.
Mr. Fichtinger had the opportunity to meet with the Secretary General of the Latvian Volleyball Federation, Mr. Almers Ludviks, as well as with Mrs. Indra Brinkmane, who is chairing the Sports Division of the local City Council in Jurmala. All other members of the Organising Committee were also in attendance to check the state of the preparations and answer all questions relating to the much anticipated event. Mr. Fichtinger inspected the area where the Beach Volleyball stadium will be set up alongside a more comprehensive village for athletes, fans and media alike.
After his inspection visit of the venue and meetings with the local staff, Mr. Fichtinger was happy to acknowledge that the venue is just fantastic, praising also the quality of the sand, one of the best he has seen in his career. On top of this, he also noted that the members of the local Organising Committee are very qualified and full of enthusiasm, which sounds as a good omen for a high-quality and successful tournament.
The city of Jurmala will be playing host to the CEV Satellite from August 28 through 31, an event of the highest importance where FIVB Ranking Points will be at stake. It will also be an opportunity for the Latvian fans to watch their heroes as well as some of the best teams in the world. The event is chiefly financed by the City of Jurmala whose authorities have set the long-term goal of making Beach Volleyball one of the main attractions in town.
