Lausanne, Switzerland, June 28, 2014. The new Swiss pair Nico Beeler / Marco Krattiger made its international debut at CEV level at the 2014 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite Lausanne. The home duo received a wildcard for the main draw. Beeler / Krattiger started and finished with two losses to end up in thirteenth position, but in both matches they managed to win one set each against top-seeded compatriots Sebastian Chevallier / Alexei Strasser and Serbia’s best team Sinisa Antonic / Marko Galesev.
Here is an interview Beeler / Krattiger gave after their first match.
How is the tournament going?
Krattiger: We started really well versus top-seeded Sebastian Chevallier / Alexei Strasser. We won the first set with good reception and good passes. However, we lost the following sets making too many mistakes.
What are your objectives at this tournament?
Krattiger: We are just starting so we just want to gain experience, to test out what we prepare during training.
Beeler: We are a brand new pair and this is our very first CEV competition so we play it by ear. We started to play beach volleyball only in April. Before that we were playing only indoors.
Why did you change?
Krattiger: Because we are more likely to play on the international level in beach volleyball.
What about the rest of the season?
Beeler: We are already very satisfied with our start winning the Coop Beach Tour in Olten and ending up second in Lugano. This year we are trying to find our marks together, our game…
