Baden, Austria, June 2, 2013. Set amongst some of the most magnificent scenery in Europe Baden (AUT) welcomed some of the most promising young Beach Volleyball players as the 1st CEV Youth Beach VolleyballContinental Cup of 2013 began.
Teams from hosts Austria, France, Portugal and Liechtenstein competed in Pool D in a double gender tournament; the first of eight Zonal Tournaments being held in Europe this summer. The 2013 series will determine the countries that will participate in the CEV Youth Continental Cup Finals in 2014. Much is at stake, as the top 6 nations will gain the right to represent Europe in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing (CHN)
In an extremely close Men’s competition home favorites, Moritz Bernd Pristauz-Telsnigg and Paul Buchegger, topped their pool with 2 straight wins. The second place was earned by the French partnership of Noél Carrau and Arnaud Loiseau, with the French duo winning a very exciting tie-breaker against the Portuguese pair of Dinis Alves - Artur Resente (21-14, 19-21, 15-5)
Austrian duo Julia Radl-Mona Geßlbauer with 2 straight wins topped the rankings in the Women’s Competition. A very exciting match decided 2nd place with France’s Aline Chamereau / Héléna Cazaute beating the Portuguese pair of Francisca Sivla / Valeria Rodrigues. The French team won in straight sets (21-13, 21-07), leaving the Portuguese pair placed third and the Liechtenstein team of Nina Ludwig / Elena Büchel finishing 4th overall.
The next zonal events of the 2013 CEV Youth Continental Cup are scheduled to be played in Parnu, (EST) and Novi Sad, (SRB). Both will be staged in mid July.
