Poland and Lithuania advance to final stage of Youth Continental Cup
CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup - Zonal Phase

Pärnu, Estonia, July 14, 2013. The Zonal Phase tournament – Pool E scheduled this weekend for the inaugural CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup came to a close on Sunday in Estonia’s most popular beach seaside resort, Pärnu. The young players from Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary and Poland joining the competition whose finals will assign next year the spots available to compose Europe’s contingent for the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China could enjoy perfect weather conditions as it was sunny almost through the complete weekend in Pärnu.
In the girls’ competition Lithuania’s Simona Vaciukynaite and Urte Andriukaityte followed up on yesterday’s victory over hosts Estonia edging Angelika Niewinska and Aleksandra Kwiatkowska of Poland in straight sets (23-21, 21-12) to finish on top of the charts and qualify for the final stage of the competition coming up in May 2014. After losing on Saturday to their neighbors from Lithuania, Estonia’s Heleene Hollas and Liisa Soomets got back on track by cruising past Patricia Juraszik and Dora Adam of Hungary (21-11, 21-13) to get the right to play Poland for second place as well as for the remaining spot available for the finals. There Niewinska and Kwiatkowska did not show any mercy for the local heroines as they cruised to a straight win (21-14, 21-15) to finish second and get the right to continue their campaign for the Youth Olympics. Estonia was ranked third in the end with Hungary rounding out the standing in fourth place.   

In the boys’ division Poland’s Jakub Macura and Dominik Kmiecik scored their second victory of the weekend at the end of a hard-fought match with Lithuania’s Edvinas Vaskelis/Matas Navickas (21-17, 16-21, and 15-12) to finish first in the group. The young boys from Lithuania could redeem for this defeat as they beat Hungary’s Krisztian Padar and Viktor Erik Ban (21-15, 21-12) in the game for second and third place. Estonia’s Raul Kartsep and Karli Allik finished fourth after losing their second game of the weekend to the Hungarian pair earlier on Sunday (19-21, 23-21, and 6-15).
