Turkey's top duo has to be content with fourth place
CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Antalya
Antalya, Turkey, April 6, 2013. After a memorable campaign, Turkey’s heroes Selcuk Sekerci and Murat Giginoglu eventually did miss out on a spot in the final match of the CEV Satellite that is running this week in Antalya. On Saturday morning Sekerci and Giginoglu lost their semifinal to Dutchmen Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen (21-14, 14-21, and 11-15) and eventually suffered another defeat in the classification match with Austria’s Xandi Huber and Robin Seidl cruising past in three sets (12-21, 21-16, and 15-8) to claim bronze in the end.
That was quite a disappointment also for the home fans – including Turkish Volleyball Federation chairman Özkan Mutlugil – that had high hopes for their guys after Sekerci and Giginoglu had ousted the first-seeded pair of the tournament, Germany’s Erdmann/Matysik, in the previous rounds.
“We are sorry that we lost both matches especially after we went off to a flying start” they say. “We really wanted to make it to the final of the tournament but this did not happen in the end. We would like to thank all fans for their incredible support and we promise we’ll achieve better results in the next tournaments”.
