Turkey's debacle in qualification round does not discourage Brazilian-born mentor
CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Antalya
Antalya, Turkey, April 3, 2013. Three pairs from the host country competed on Wednesday as the qualification got started at the CEV Satellite tournament in Antalya. As the hosts drew the line at the end of the day, they unfortunately had to register a negative result, with three first-round losses in as many matches.
Ersin Durgut/Suat Degirmenci were bested by Norway’s Lars Fredrik Tvinde/Mathias Loftesnes (14-21, and 13-21), Saki Karali/Engin Özbek lost in two sets to Ukraine’s Vladyslav Iemelianchyk/Stanislav Kovalkov (16-21, 18-21) while Soner Erdogmus/Ismail Dericioglu did also suffer a straight-set defeat to another pair from the Ukraine, namely Iaroslav Gordieiev/Eduard Reznik (10-21, 14-21).
Turkey’s head coach, Brazilian-born Carlos Galletti Alemão, could not be happy with the results of his duos but nevertheless did draw his attention on the Main Draw which is set to start on Thursday morning and where Turkey’s best duos will be in action. “These guys are not yet ready, physically, mentally and tactically. They have been practicing for only two weeks and this is not enough for such high-level tournament. They are all very young. Karali and Özbek were close to claim their game and played good. But Engin (Özbek) suffered an ankle injury at the end of the second set. The other two teams are even younger, they played their best today but I think they will improve” he said. “The games in the Main Draw will be tough for us as all pairs there play at a very high level. My teams have practiced and got ready for this tournament the best they could. Our goal is to win 2-3 games; I hope for the best though tomorrow won’t be an easy day for us” he added.
