16 teams make it to Main Draw in Montpellier

Montpellier, France, June 6, 2013. The qualification round for the inaugural CEV Satellite tournament in Montpellier got underway on Thursday morning with the first set of matches where the home heroes Pierre Basset/Jeremy Ullmann lost in straight sets to the Czech duo David Kufa/Ondrej Pridal (8-11, 7-11, and 6-11).
At the end of the second round played in the afternoon 8 teams per gender could advance to the Main Draw whose start is scheduled for Friday morning. In the men’s tournament these are: Kissling/Prawdzic and Sutter/Sutter (SUI), Kufa R./Hadrava and Vesely/Dumek (CZE), Hoyer/Hoyer (DEN), Pastukhov/Khudyakov (RUS), Monfort/Lario (ESP), and Kvamsdal/Hordvik (NOR).
In the women’s tournament tickets to the Main Draw were booked by Grawender/Lundqvist and Nilsson/Yoken (SWE), Suwinska/Woloszyn (POL), Laboureur/Sude and Hüttermann/Rossek (GER), plus Vodeb/Fabjan (SLO), Klopf/Teufl (AUT) and the home heroines Virginie Sarpaux and Julie De Vathaire who cruised past the Norwegian duo composed of Janne Kongshavn and Benedicte Maaseide, the daughter of former European champion Bjorn, with the score of 3:1 (4-11, 12-10, 11-6, and 11-8).
The CEV Satellite tournament in Montpellier sees an innovative scoring system being tested for the first time with matches being played in a “best of five” format and each set up to 11 points (in case of a tie at 10, this must be broken by a 2-point lead).
