Home heroes Gahr/von Deichmann hope to win at least one game in Vaduz
2013 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Vaduz

Vaduz, Liechtenstein, August 8, 2013. Manuel Gahr and Maximilian von Deichmann are the sole players from Liechtenstein that are set to compete this weekend at the CEV Satellite tournament in Vaduz. They will debut on Friday for they got the right to start their campaign right from the Main Draw.
Gahr/von Deichmann won gold this past June at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Luxembourg (see picture) and also participated in the U23 Beach Volleyball World Champs that were held a couple of weeks later in Myslowice, Poland. “The Games of the Small States of Europe were the highlight of the season” Gahr says. “We prepared very thoroughly and we eventually got the right reward for our hard work. On the other hand, we did not have much time to prepare for the World Championships for we were informed very late if we had the right to compete or we first needed to go through a qualification tournament. Though we played well in a strong pool we did not make it to the single elimination round. It was nevertheless a very good experience and if we had prepared better, the result would have been different. After Myslowice we played various tournaments in Switzerland” Gahr continues.

What about the expectations and the goals they have set for the home tournament in Vaduz? “This is evidently another highlight this season, we have prepared as good as we could and we are in good shape. However, we did not set the bar too high for we know that there are many strong teams starring here this year as well. We just want to show to our fans that we can play good Beach Volleyball and with the support of the audience we maybe can win one game”.

This will be the last tournament this year for Gahr and von Deichmann who will enjoy a two, three-week long break from Volleyball. “Starting from September I will continue my studies in Zurich and play there indoor alongside VBC Züri Unterland” Gahr says. “Max is set to move to Munich to study sports management and is likely to play in the regional league. We still have to figure out how we can come together and prepare for the next season; we first need to wait to know more about our academic and work duties and then we will define our plans accordingly”.
