On the central court on Yuzhen beach, 8 girls’ and 8 boys’ duos from all over Bulgaria engaged in emotional battles with the same passion expected from those that will represent their countries in the continental championship.  Rositsa Yordanova/Mihaela Yordanova from Varna won the girls’ competition with Radostina Marinova/Sofiya Nikolova from Plovdiv and Maya Cherkezova/Velimira Mireva from Varna completing the podium.  Ivan Asenov/Dobrin Aleksandrov from Bozhurishte won the boys’ final against Aleksandur Georgiev/Yanko Petrov from Kurdzhali in what they claimed was ”an old rivalry” between the two teams. Aleksandur Milanov/Krasimir Aleksandrov from Varna took the bronze.  The CEV Technical Supervisor of the European Championship Michel Everaert awarded the winners.  Ivan Asenov revealed that he is dreaming to one day represent Bulgaria in world championships and and that he already has his Beach Volleyball idol – Branimir Grozdanov, one of Bulgaria’s players at the European Championship.

The 2013 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship presented by Mtel was then officially started with the Technical Meeting.  All officials who took the floor stressed on how important fair play is for this competition and for Beach Volleyball in general.  ”On behalf of the CEV and our President André Meyer, I warmly welcome you to Varna,” Jury President and CEV Vice President Banu Can-Schürmann told the participants.  ”I hope you enjoy one of the biggest organizations for your age here.  I wish you good luck now and in higher-level competitions in the future!”

The drawing of lots provided for some exciting battles to jump-start the European Championship on Thursday morning with the first women’s matches starting at 8 AM on four competition courts.
