Beach Volleyball returns with four international events confirmed for this summer
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, June 19, 2020. With competitive and recreational sport slowly returning after the coronavirus crisis, after liaising with the respective local organisers, the CEV is delighted to confirm the organisation and delivery of a number of 1-Star and 2-Star World Tour events for later this summer. The four tournaments in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Montpellier (France), Klaipeda (Lithuania), and Larnaka (Cyprus) will provide Beach Volleyball players with the opportunity to relive the feeling of international competition after the novel virus brought the sport to a standstill since earlier this spring.

On the other hand, the organisers of the events due to take place in Ios (Greece), Bettystown (Ireland), Vaduz (Liechtenstein) and Sønderborg (Denmark) have announced the cancellation of these tournaments due to restrictions still in place in their respective countries, which prevent the delivery of sporting events and / or any sort of large gatherings.

International Beach Volleyball will return at the end of July in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, with a 1-Star event due to run there from July 30 to August 2. Teams can already sign up for participation and the CEV published earlier today the respective event regulations as well.

The events in Klaipeda and Montpellier will be taking place as previously announced at the end of August. The men’s 1-Star tournament in Montpellier will run from August 25 to 29, with Klaipeda playing host to the very first World Tour on Lithuanian soil from August 27 to 30, for what will be a much-anticipated 2-Star women’s only competition.

Larnaka will host the last event currently scheduled for the summer of 2020, with the Cyprus Volleyball family very much looking forward to hosting elite women’s Beach Volleyball teams after postponing the 2-Star event initially planned for July to September 18-20.

After the start of national tours in a number of European countries earlier this month, this is obviously great news for Beach Volleyball players and fans alike – with action returning after a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Moreover, the CEV is currently liaising with interested National Federations to determine the dates and venue of #EuroBeachVolleyU22 as well, following the withdrawal of the Dutch Volleyball Federation from hosting the event in the city of Vlissingen in early September. Further updates will follow in due course. The 2020 edition of the U18 and U20 continental championships will be taking place in Izmir (Turkey) and Brno (Czech Republic) in the month of September.

As per the decision taken by the CEV Board of Administration in April, the calendar remains subject to change, depending on the evolution of the pandemic and the measures adopted by national authorities to curb the spread of the disease.
