Israel’s tallest female soldier to feature at historic 1-Star World Tour event
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv, Israel, November 5, 2019. On Thursday, 18-year-old Noga Maor, who represents Israel’s national Beach Volleyball team, will have a double pleasure: the first – she will take part in the first FIVB World Tour tournament to take place in Israel. The second – she gets a day off from the army. As someone who has the status of an ‘Outstanding Athlete’, Maor is entitled to days off in order to participate in international competitions.
Like many women in Israel, Maor is obligated to serve in the army for a period of two years. However, as an Outstanding Athlete, she does not have to serve away from home, and so she was stationed in Camp Rabin military base, just in the centre of Tel Aviv, which functions as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) headquarters. She goes there every day, and has the role of a Planning and Supervising Non-Commissioned Officer. Accept her formal role, Maor, standing at 190 cm, is also, officially, the tallest female soldier in the Israeli army!
“At first, it was a bit embarrassing to be yelled at and getting orders from a commander who is a head shorter than me, but I got used to it pretty fast,” she told Israel Hayom, a popular Israeli newspaper, this June.

Up until now, Maor’s top achievement in the FIVB World Tour is reaching the quarterfinals at the 1-Star event held in Visakhapatnam, India alongside Noy Chorin, this past March.
