Age is just a number for Israel’s Sharon Ophir Chetrit
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv, Israel, November 4, 2019. One of the Israeli players due to compete in the qualification round of the historic 1-Star World Tour event in Tel Aviv is Sharon Ophir Chetrit. At the age of 46, and as a mother of two, she is the chief manager of the unit responsible for the supervision of mutual funds in Israel Securities Authority (ISA), a very demanding job. She started playing Beach Volleyball more ‘seriously’ when she was 42.
Ophir Chetrit, who sees legendary Kerri Walsh Jennings as a role model, also played football (winning the 2nd league championship in Israel, as a goalkeeper) and basketball at younger ages, but started her sporting career as a swimmer. Along with her partner, Hila Nacson, a 32-year-old who works as a physiotherapist and is a practicing Jewish, the two combine for being one of the most interesting teams to play in Tel Aviv later this week.
For both, it will be the very first appearance in the FIVB World Tour, an exciting moment by itself, of which Ophir Chetrit says: “I do not look at myself as a 46-year-old, but as a teenager with a life experience of 30 years. I see my age as an advantage – I have mental strength and good balance in life. For me, taking part in this exciting event is a dream come true, and I will do my best on the court, as always.”
