Aydin, Turkey, May 15, 2019. The Technical Meeting of the competition was held on Wednesday, ringing the start of the first European 2-Star World Tour event this season. A total of 56 teams from 23 different countries will be participating in the competition. On Thursday, 16 teams per gender will play qualification matches and four teams will eventually qualify to participate in the Main Draw starting from Friday, May 17, 2019.
The Turkish city will be hosting the World Tour in the middle of May for the second year in a row. This time around the tournament boasts an even richer entry list, including both Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games champions - the Russian girls Mariia Bocharova/Maria Voronina and the Swedes David Åhman/Jonatan Hellvig as the teams are trying to transition to senior level. Other familiar team names include Alex Ranghieri/Marco Caminati of Italy and Vasiliki Arvaniti/Panagiota Karagkouni of Greece, and many others that have already claimed World Tour medals around the world.
FIVB and CEV Technical Delegate, Mr Pier Paolo Murgioni, Beach Volleyball Coordinator of the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) Oguz Degirmenci and Head of Sports Department of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, Mr İbrahim Gürdal attended the Technical Meeting of the tournament.
Degirmenci said: “This is the biggest Beach Volleyball competition that we are organising in 2019. All athletes are in a hurry to collect points in this tournament ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”
Technical Delegate Pier Paolo Murgioni said that many Beach and Snow Volleyball events have been organised by the TVF in the past. "I am really proud to be here - in the only 2-Star World Tour event hosted in Europe this year. All Turkish people should be proud of this organisation and I’m sure that everyone will enjoy the matches."
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2-Star Aydin Masters will finish on Sunday, 19 May 2019, when the eventual champions will be crowned. Fans will be able to watch the deciding matches of the tournament live on EuroVolley.TV
