Alba Adriatica poised to host historic World Tour event
2019 World Tour 1-Star - Alba Adriatica
Alba Adriatica, Italy, July 10, 2019. A 1-Star World Tour women’s only event will be taking place from Friday to Sunday in Alba Adriatica. It is the first such international tournament to take place in the Italian seaside resort.
“We are honoured to play host to an international event of this calibre,” said the Mayor of Alba Adriatica, Antonietta Casciotti on Wednesday while addressing the media. “The World Tour 1- Star Alba Adriatica event presented by Offertevillaggi.com makes us proud and encourages us to do even better. There will be athletes from all over the world competing here and this will help us draw attention to our seaside resort and coastline. I have known the organisers for many years and I am sure that the event will be a success.”
“I am very happy to be in Alba Adriatica,” said Magdalena Smiecinska of Poland, FIVB and CEV Technical Supervisor. “It is the first time for me here, but I am satisfied with the good work I have seen this far, and we hope that there will be good weather for the remainder of the week.”
The Councillor for Tourism, Paolo Cichetti, spent a few words as well: “We are proud and it is an honour for Alba Adriatica to join some major cities that have been hosting World Tour events this far. Sporting events represent an opportunity to promote our city and we hope to be up to the standards of a world event of this level.”
“We are reorganising with much satisfaction Beach Volleyball activities in our region, with courses for coaches and referees. I am confident that the World Tour 1-Star will be a success and I congratulate the organisers on behalf of our Regional Committee,” said the Vice President of FIPAV Abruzzo, Marco Zulli.
Two sports clubs, Kingofthebeach and Beach Sport, are responsible for the delivery of the event. “My greatest satisfaction is that of having seen the young boys of Beach Sport grow, showing a great spirit of initiative and slowly but surely we have set up a beach arena, which is a great thing by itself. This event is a great organisational effort. There will be teams from 3 continents, 16 nations and 56 players, if you count the qualification round and the Main Draw. Moreover, I would like to stress that this tournament allocates FIVB ranking points on the way that takes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said Tournament Director Fulvio Taffoni.
The competition will begin on Friday morning at 9 am with the qualification round to determine the four teams that will progress to the Main Draw. The tournament resumes then on Saturday before reaching its climax on Sunday afternoon with the medal matches.
