The Main Draw of the 1-Star World Tour event held in Pinarella di Cervia started on Friday with a very long programme and the last matches played late in the evening under floodlights. As many as four out of the five Italian teams due to compete in the Main Draw are still in contention for glory, with Matteo Ingrosso and Jakub Windisch the standout performers of the day as they claimed first place in their pool. Windisch/Ingrosso started the day with a 2-1 victory over their compatriots and qualifiers Fabrizio Manni/Carlo Bonifazi (21-15, 12-21, 15-12) before pulling out another three-set win in the match with Michael Boag and Timothy Brewster of USA (21-17, 19-21, 15-8). Other pool winners qualifying straight for the quarterfinals are Russia’s Maxim Sivolap/Artem Yarzutkin and Maksim Hudyakov/Igor Velichko and Austria’s Florian Ertl/Johannes Kratz. Three Italian teams will contest Round of 12 matches on Saturday morning, with Manni/Bonifazi playing England’s Javier Bello/Joaquin Bello, Tobia Marchetto/Alberto Di Silvestre taking on Boag/Brewster and home heroes Matteo Galli/Federico Morichelli due to play Martin Sramek/Jakub Gala of the Czech Republic. The matchup between South Africa’s Grant Goldschmidt/Leo Williams and Poland’s Mariusz Prudel/Milosz Kruk completes the programme of the Round of 12. Click here for further information.
