Ljubljana poised to welcome Beach Volleyball players from all over the world
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Ljubljana
Ljubljana, Slovenia, July 31, 2019. Later this week, Ljubljana will host an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star event for the third time. After the successful inaugural tournament held in August last year and the winter edition in November, teams from all around the world will gather again in Slovenia’s capital.
Slovenian sports fans will get the opportunity to see some high-level Beach Volleyball and welcome teams from all continents. “This is the third time we will be hosting an FIVB World Tour event in Ljubljana. We are very excited that our tournament is very popular among the teams and that we will be welcoming pairs from all continents. Besides the teams from European countries, we will be able to see in action players from Japan, New Zealand, USA, South Africa, Brazil, and even Colombia. I am confident that we will be witnessing another Beach Volleyball spectacle,” Ana Oblak, the representative of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia, expressed her joy about the upcoming event in Ljubljana’s city centre.
The event not only known for its beautiful stadium at the Congress Square but also for the night matches and packed tribunes is a huge motivation, especially for the home teams. This year eight of them will try to find their way to glory. The best Slovenia's Beach Volleyball players, Tjaša Jančar and Tjaša Kotnik, just celebrated their third consecutive national championship title and they are keen to present themselves in the best possible way in front of the home crowd. “Some very strong teams have entered the competition and we are expecting some difficult matches. Our goal is to win a medal, but we are aware that we will have to give our best. We are highly motivated to play in front of the home crowd again and we are hoping for the best,” Kotnik revealed her expectations during the pre-event press conference.
Slovenia's Beach Volleyball superstar Nejc Zemljak and his partner Jan Pokeršnik will finally try to win their first gold medal at the Ljubljana event. “We always played in semi-finals and finals in Ljubljana, but so far we have not managed to claim the gold. We are hoping to do it this year, although the teams are so equal that you never know what will happen. Minor differences determine the eventual winners. We are of course hoping to get the gold,” Zemljak explained to the journalists gathered in the City Hall.
