Eight teams from seven countries complete Baden Open Main Draw
2019 World Tour 1-Star - Baden Open
Baden, Austria, June 7, 2019. The World Tour 1-Star event in Baden started on Friday with the qualification round, where 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams fought under perfect weather conditions for a spot in the Main Draw. The teams that eventually made it through to the next round are the following ones:
Women
Beata Vaida/Ioana-Alexandra Ordean (Romania), Nina Lovsin/Tajda Lovsin (Slovenia), Viktoryia Siakretava/Lizaveta Chabai /Belarus) and Sarah Cools/Lisa Van Den Vonder (Belgium).
Men
Alejandro Huerta/Cesar Menendez (Spain), Pavel Shustrov/Alexey Gusev (Russia), Petr Bakhnar/Yury Bogatov (Russia), Jakob Windisch/Samuele Cottafava (Italy).
Later in the afternoon, the wind became stronger and the players started to have some difficulties to deal with it. The audience in Baden showed full support for all teams and cheered everyone on even when the Austrians were leading the score. Furthermore, the medical team reported 15 physio-therapeutic treatments to enable a perfect regeneration for the players competing at the iconic venue set up at Strandbad Baden.
Unfortunately, especially for the home fans, the luck was not on Austria’s side today. No further teams made it out of the qualification round and Robin Seidl/Philipp Waller have had to withdraw from the Main Draw due to a knee injury suffered by Seidl.
You can follow all of the action from the centre court on EuroVolleyTV.
