Turkey ready to host #EuroBeachvolleyU22 in Antalya
CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championships 2019
Antalya, Turkey, July 10, 2019. Turkey are about to host yet another international Beach Volleyball competition with #EuroBeachVolleyU22 running from Thursday to Sunday in Antalya. Earlier this year, the Turkish Volleyball Federation hosted a Beach Volleyball Festival in Antalya and a World Tour 2-Star event in Aydin. Live streaming of all matches and from all four courts is available on the CEV’s very own OTT platform EuroVolleyTV!
Some of Europe’s rising stars will have the opportunity to show their skills, determination and teamwork – qualities that embody the true spirit of the sport. On the men’s side, Turkey’s Yusuf Ozdemir will be playing with Mustafa Susam this time around after competing with Ali Cebeci at the U20 European Championships held in Göteborg, Sweden in late June. Ali Cebeci and Eren Kanli will be representing Turkey on home sand after already doing so earlier this year at the 2-Star World Tour event in Aydin.
“We will play the matches at home and in front of our crowd. We have been working hard for a long time. I hope that we can achieve a great result in this tournament,” Ozdemir said.
Latvia’s Kristaps Smits/Mihails Samoilovs and Dutch duo Mees Blom/Yorick de Groot are the strongest teams on paper. De Groot just won #EuroBeachVolleyU20 gold in Sweden together with Matthew Immers, while Smits/Samoilovs are the gold medal winners from last year’s U22 competition held in Jurmala, Latvia.
In the women’s tournament, Russian youngsters Mariia Bocharova/Maria Voronina (pictured above) are set to return to Turkey after their first ever World Tour win at Aydin this year and securing gold at #EuroBeachVolleyU20 in Göteborg. Bocharova will be trying to complete a clean sweep of age-group continental titles as earlier this summer she won gold in the U18 event as well together with Elizaveta Gubina.
Hosts Turkey have only one team in the women’s draw with Ebru Karayilan/Selis Selvi. They will play together for the first time. “Yes, it is true that we will play together for the first time. We want to have a successful tournament here. Let us see what we can deliver. I wish good luck to all teams who participate in this tournament,” Karayilan said.
