Göteborg, Sweden, April 19, 2019. It was Swedish duo Sara Cavretti/Kristin Lind who opened up the historic Swedish competition on Thursday by facing USA’s Lara Dykstra/Cassie House. The American duo have two consecutive World Tour wins under their belts as they ended up with the gold medal in both Battambang, Cambodia, and Langkawi, Malaysia, earlier this April. The Americans proved to be too strong for the home power and eventually were one of the four teams that qualified for the Main Draw starting on Friday. The other teams achieving this feat are Marta Duda/Marta Lodej from Poland, Emma Piersma/Pleun Ypma from the Netherlands and Claudia Scampoli/Dalila Varrassi from Italy.
The men’s qualification also started on Thursday with wins from Japan's Koichi Nishimura/Daisuke Shibata and Poland's Milosz Kruk/Dominik Poznanski with the latter continuing the winning streak until securing a spot in the Main Draw, joining Robin Sowa/Lukas Pfretzschner of Germany, Russia's Andrey Bolgov/Vladislav Ermilov and the Italians Jakob Windisch/Samuele Cottafava.
The schedule for Friday's pool play has been released and the eight Swedish teams, with Youth Olympic gold medallists David Åhman/Jonatan Hellvig headlining the entries, are looking forward to playing a World Tour event on home soil for the first time. In the women's main draw, Swedish duo Tadva Yoken/Sofia Wahlén lead the entries before Norwegians Ane Guro Tveit Hjortland/Victoria Faye Kjølberg and Ukrainian twins Inna and Iryna Makhno.
The highest ranked team on the men’s side are Aliaksandr Dziadkou/Pavel Piatrushka of Belarus followed by Germans Armin Dollinger/Simon Kulzer and Selcuk Sekerci/Safa Urlu of Turkey.
