Rok Možič – The wunderkind of Slovenian (Beach) Volleyball
2018 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Ljubljana
Ljubljana, Slovenia, July 31, 2018. Young, only 16-years old, Slovenian Rok Možič is taking big steps forward in his career as a Volleyball and Beach Volleyball player. The next challenge for this youngster from Maribor is the debut in an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star/Satellite tournament later this week in Ljubljana.
The high school student started to play Volleyball at an early age, what is no surprise since both of his parents, Peter and Mojca, were Volleyball players and national team members. With his undoubtable talent, it looks like Slovenia found a true successor to Tine Urnaut, the national team captain and former U19 Beach Volleyball World champion.
Možič is successfully combining both sports. In the previous season, he won three national championship titles in Beach Volleyball; together with Jaka Udrih he claimed gold in the U17, U19 and U21 age groups. This year he took another step further by pairing up with Žiga Kumer and competing against the best Slovenian teams in the senior category. Možič and Kumer have already won three medals from the National tour, including silver after a close defeat in the finals in Kranj where they lost to the highly experienced Danijel Pokeršnik (who claimed his seventh national title) and Tadej Boženk.

In the beginning of the July, Slovenia’s national team head coach Slobodan Kovač put Možič on his list and invited him to a training camp in Kranjska Gora, to join the team for the preparations for the 2018 FIVB World Championship due to take place in Italy and Bulgaria in September. Možič became the youngest player in Slovenian Volleyball history to make it to the ‘senior’ national team. “I am much honoured to be invited to the national team. I am really excited, and also a bit nervous, but I hope that I will prove myself in the best way and will be as equal as possible to our best players,” the young sportsman who already played for the U18 and U20 national teams commented at the beginning of the preparations.
Možič definitely has a bright future ahead of him and will for sure get a chance to set even more milestones in the history of Slovenian Volleyball.
