2018 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Manavgat
Manavgat, Turkey, June 23, 2018. On Saturday, Oscar Brandão and Luciano Ferreira de Paula from Beach Volleyball powerhouse Brazil claimed the gold medal of the 1-Star Manavgat Open following their triumph in the ‘grand finale’ of the men’s competition against Denmark’s Kristoffer Abell and Daniel Thomsen. Dutchmen Jannes van der Ham and Sven Vismans completed the podium following their victory in the bronze medal match with Alejandro and Javier Huerta Pastor of Spain.
The final was a real delight for the audience with Oscar and Luciano delivering a very solid performance. The Brazilians claimed the first set 21-14 but Abell and Thomsen were able to fight their way back in the second. It was a dramatic affair where Brazil fought back again to emerge victorious at 23-21. “We are happy with the result; we loved the Turkish crowd and we would like to thank all those who supported us for the whole tournament,” Luciano said.
Van der Ham/Vismans and the Huerta brothers fought for a spot on the podium earlier in the afternoon. The Dutch side celebrated a come-from-behind 2-1 (14-21, 21-16, 15-11) victory to secure the bronze medals.
