Baden, Austria, June 14, 2018. Florian Schnetzer and Daniel Müllner were the fifth Austrian men’s team to qualify for the main draw at the FIVB World Tour BADEN OPEN, presented by SPORT.LAND.NÖ, by winning against teams from the Czech Republic and Sweden on Thursday. After the victory over Japan, Moritz Kindl/Marian Klaffinger also triumphed against the USA. A total of six men’s teams and four women’s teams from Austria will compete in tomorrow’s main draw. Thousands of fans will be rooting for their home heroes!

Schnetzer (28) from Unterach am Attersee and Müllner (28) from Stockerau opened the men’s qualifications on the centre court in Baden on Thursday, playing against the strong Czech team David Lenc/Filip Habr. The strong defence of the Czech team and Habr’s incredible service led to the Austrians losing the first set with a disappointing 11-21. After the second set (23-21), the teams were even. However, the strong determination of the Austrian team then led to a 15-11 win in the deciding set.

In the penultimate qualifier on centre court, Schnetzer/Müllner competed against Jakob Molin/Linus Tholse from Sweden. After a fantastic start in the first set with Austria winning 21-10, Sweden caught up in a more balanced second set, but in the end, Müllner/Schnetzer came out on top 22-20 and qualified for Friday’s main draw.

In the second Austrian qualifier on centre court, Kindl (19) from Vienna and Klaffinger (21) from Graz triumphed against the Japanese Koichi Nishimura/Yu Koshikawa. The first set was quite close, with the Austrians winning 22-20. The calm manor of the young home team then led to the win for Austria 21-17 in the second set.

Kindl/Klaffinger competed against the USA team Michael Boag/Skylar Del Sol in their second qualifier on centre court and surprised with a 21-14 win in the first set. The US team managed to draw in the second (18-21). After a weak performance by Boag in the third set, the US team was thrown off course, setting up the Austrians to win 15-10.
