#EuroBeachVolleyU18 returns to Brno for 2018 edition
2018 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Luxembourg, December 20, 2017. The 2018 edition of the CEV U18 European Beach Volleyball Championship will be taking place in Brno, Czech Republic from August 16 to 19. It is the third time in only seven years that the second largest city of the Czech Republic will host #EuroBeachVolleyU18 after doing so in 2012 and 2016 as well. Europe’s Beach Volleyball rising stars will once again perform at the iconic venue set up on the shores of the Brno Reservoir.
The Czech Volleyball Federation have been working hard to develop Beach Volleyball across the country – and their activities have produced some terrific results, with more than 3,000 kids having registered for participation in Beach Volleyball clubs since 2012.
The 2018 #EuroBeachVolleyU18 will be a truly special event – since it coincides with the 30th anniversary since the introduction of Beach Volleyball in Brno and in the former Czechoslovakia. Back in 1988, the first national Beach Volleyball competition took place in Brno on two courts set up specifically for the occasion. On top of this, 2018 will mark the 100th anniversary since the establishment of the former Czechoslovakia as an independent country, with many sporting and cultural events planned to go with the celebrations.
Beach Volleyball is one of the most popular sports among young people in the Czech Republic and it has grown tremendously especially following the performances of the top women’s teams from this country – with Marketa Slukova/Barbora Hermannova and Kristyna Kolocova/Michala Kvapilova being the silver medal winners from the 2016 and 2017 European Championship, respectively.
Thanks to the availability of more than 100 indoor courts, including some 66 in Prague only, Czech Beach Volleyball players, and the younger ones too can now practice all year round and indoor championships take place annually in the U18, U20 and U22 age groups.
The last time the #EuroBeachVolleyU18 took place in Brno, i.e. in 2016, Marie-Sara Stochlova and Martina Maixnerova used the home-court advantage to take gold from the women’s competition. Their younger compatriots, including some Brno natives, will be trying to achieve the same feat when the competition returns to the Czech Republic’s second largest city in August 2018.
