Jurmala, Latvia, July 25, 2018. Great atmosphere and amazing battles on the beach – this is what the fans of Beach Volleyball will be expecting to witness in the upcoming four days at the 2018 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship that is kicking off on July 26 in Jurmala where the 32 men’s and 32 women’s participating teams will be giving their best in order to climb the European peak. The famous Latvian seaside resort will become once again home to a major European Beach Volleyball event and all the matches will be played at Jurmala Beach – Baltic Beach Hotel – in a special stadium with capacity for up to 1,600 fans.
#EuroBeachVolleyU22 is being celebrated only a few days after the 2018 #EuroBeachVolley came to an end – at Jurmala ‘the new generation’ in Beach Volleyball will be locking horns to determine who the Kings and the Queens in this age group will be.
In the Men’s competition stand out the names of:
• Mihails Samoilovs/Kristaps Smits (LAT) - bronze medal winners from the 2016 and 2017 U19 and U21 World Championships who will be carrying the hopes of home success
• Aleksandr Kramarenko/Vasilii Ivanov (RUS) who grabbed the silver medals from the 2016 #EuroBeachVolley20 in Turkey
• Sergey Gorbenko/Dmitrii Veretiuk (RUS), having in mind that Veretiuk just won gold at the U20 European Championship in Anapa, but with a different partner
• Florian Breer/Yves Haussener (SUI): U17 World Champions in 2014
• Timothée Platre/Paul Nicole (FRA) who just won silver at the #EuroBeachVolleyU20 in Anapa.
2017 men’s gold medal winners in that age group - Oleg Stoyanovskiy/Artem Yarzutkin of Russia have moved up to the ‘senior’ ranks and won’t be competing.
In the Women’s tournament a special attention should be paid to:
• Nadezda Makroguzova/Svetlana Kholomina (RUS) who are the reigning champions in the U22 age group
• Mariia Bocharova/Maria Voronina (RUS) - both are two-time (2017, 2018) U20 European champions
• Anastasija Kravcenoka/Tina Graudina (LAT) - they were crowned U22 European champions back in 2016
• Martina Maixnerova/Marie-Sara Stochlova (CZE) – two years ago they became U18 European champions
• Irina Zobnina/Ieva Vasiliauskaite (LTU) – both competed also in the first ever to be held Snow Volleyball European Championship earlier this year, but with different partners
• Beata Vaida/Francesca Ioana Alupei (ROU) - Vaida won silver at the U22 European Championship last year in Baden.
