Jurmala poised to play host to 2018 #EuroBeachVolleyU22
2018 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Jurmala, Latvia, July 12, 2018. For the fifth year in a row, and namely from July 26 to 29, the city of Jurmala will be playing host to a major international Beach Volleyball tournament – the 2018 edition of the CEV U22 European Beach Volleyball Championship. Latvia will count on as many as six teams – three women’s and three men’s tandems – in an effort to use the home-court advantage to make it to the podium.
Home stars and 2016 U22 European champions Anastasija Kravcenoka and Tina Graudina (pictured) are among the favourites of the women’s competition. Mihails Samoilovs and Kristaps Smits, who have a bronze medal from the FIVB U21 World Championship to their name, will be Latvia’s strongest medal contenders in the men’s tournament.
“Latvia attracted the world’s attention last week during the Latvia’s Centenary Song and Dance Festival with our singing and dancing talents. However, we soon will have the honour to show the most excellent, gracious and beautiful Latvian Beach Volleyball players while gathering in our country the best ones from all around Europe,” says the President of the Latvian Volleyball Federation, Mr Atis Sausnitis. He continues: “Volleyball is a sport that gathers not only sport enthusiasts but also everyone who appreciates the graciousness and physical abilities of the players. Everyone will have something to enjoy!”
A special stadium will once again be the stage for the U22 Championship on Majori beach, this time with a capacity for up to 1,600 fans. Entrance is free for everyone. High-level tournaments have been taking place in Jurmala for the past five years – with the major highlight coming in 2017 when Latvia’s most popular seaside resort played host to the CEV ‘senior’ Beach Volleyball European Championship.
