Anapa ready to host #EuroBeachVolleyU20
2018 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship
Anapa, Russia, June 27, 2018. The 2018 edition of the CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship will be taking place from Thursday to Sunday in the Russian city of Anapa. The very same venue will be playing host to a 1-Star Satellite next week as well.
“It will be very difficult for us to surprise the people of Anapa after the visit they received from the National Football team of Denmark but we will try to do our best [the Danish National Football team held a training camp next in VoleyGrad while preparing for the FIFA World Cup 2018],” said Marina Shcherbakova, the Tournament Director. “There are 32 men’s and 32 women’s teams from 29 European countries competing in this prestigious event. Russia as a host country has the maximum quota available for this tournament, with three men’s and three women’s teams competing here. #EuroBeachVolleyU20 is also the European qualifier for the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Championship and our players must show great results.”
Sergei Tkachenko, Head of the Sports Department of the city of Anapa: “We are happy that Anapa is hosting #EuroBeachVolleyU20. This is very important for us because many tourists can visit the games and support the teams. VoleyGrad is the perfect place for organising such a tournament. I am sure that the organisers will deliver a high-quality event and we all will have many positive vibes.”
Dmitry Fedotov, head coach of the Russian youth Women’s National team: “We are hosting #EuroBeachVolleyU20 and this tournament has a high importance for us. We have many important competitions this year, for example right after the tournament in Anapa we will take part in the U19 World Championship in China. Last year was very successful for us. We could win two gold medals from the European Championships in two different age categories because of our excellent teamwork and the support of the Volleyball Federation of Russia.”
Yaroslav Koshkarev, coach of the Russian youth Men’s National team said that he has just finished his career as a player but he enjoys working with the youngsters. “When I see my players showing progress in all aspects of the game I am very pleased. We will participate in many international tournaments this year and will compete with many strong teams.”
Maria Voronina, a double gold medallist from last year’s under-age European Championships: “I have been playing with my partner Mariia Bocharova for more than three years. We understand each other very well and maybe it is the most important for us. We will participate in the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and in the European Beach Volleyball Championship as well. We have trained a lot and we are happy with the results we have achieved this far. #EuroBeachVolleyU20 is our home tournament and we will try to retain our title.”
Vasilii Ivanov, reigning U20 European champion: “I started to play with Sergey Gorbenko in 2016. In the beginning, it was not easy for us to play together but in 2017, we could win the U20 European Championship in Vulcano. We started to prepare for #EuroBeachVolleyU20 a long time ago and now we can finally compete with many strong teams. We will show our best in order to achieve great results.”
