Luxembourg, October 20, 2017. The 2018 European Beach Volleyball season will start shortly after the holiday season with an indoor Masters tournament due to take place in Pelhřimov, Czech Republic. The event scheduled for January 11-14, 2018 will be a truly historic one – since it coincides with the first-ever indoor Beach Volleyball competition of this magnitude held on European soil.
Many Beach Volleyball players are already familiar with the first-class facilities available at Beachwell in Pelhřimov, since this same venue played host to a MEVZA zonal event in 2015 and to a CEV indoor Satellite in early November 2016. However, the organisers will raise the bar much higher this time around since the tournament coming up in early January will be a double-gender Masters, featuring 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams in the qualification round – and just as many in the respective Main Draw.
On the announcement, President of the Czech Volleyball Federation Marek Pakosta stated "We are happy to host the very first CEV Beach Volleyball indoor Masters tournament. We chose an experienced and successful promoter and organiser in Pelhřimov, where lots of other indoor events were held in the past. We expect to see the highest level of our sport that will attract lot of Beach Volleyball fans from across Europe. Thank you for the confidence and support we have received from the CEV for this tournament and we look forward to welcoming all the players and fans in our country early next year."
There is a lot at stake since next to FIVB / CEV ranking points the participating teams will be chasing a share of the € 25,000 prize money available per gender while competing across three courts and before a crowd just short of 1,000 people.
The organisers look forward to delivering a truly unforgettable event, providing European players with an opportunity to compete at the highest level while preparing for a busy 2018 summer including the much-anticipated European Beach Volleyball Championship due to take place in the Netherlands. The Managing Director of the BeachWell Facility, Vladimír
Kozler, said: "I am very excited about hosting the winter CEV Masters Tournament at BEACHWELL. I believe, that we can offer good conditions for players and fans and hope for an excellent tournament."
Pelhřimov is a city in the southern part of the Czech Republic hosting Beachwell, which offers excellent conditions for playing Beach Volleyball in the summer as well as during the winter season. Fitness, wellness, cryotherapy and accommodation are all available within the complex as well.
CEV are still open to applications for other European events in 2018 until the deadline on 31st October 2017. You can find full information here.
