Last Beach Volleyball tournament of 2017 season coming up in Baku
2017 CEV-EEVZA Beach Volleyball Satellite - Baku
Baku, Azerbaijan, October 10, 2017. The very last tournament on schedule of a truly exciting 2017 Beach Volleyball season is due to start on Wednesday at the iconic Beach Arena in Baku, the venue that hosted the Beach Volleyball competition at the Baku 2015 European Games. This is the first Beach Volleyball event of this magnitude to take place in Azerbaijan in two years – and it comes only 10 days after the ‘Land of Fire’ successfully played host to the 2017 women’s EuroVolley.
The CEV-EEVZA Beach Volleyball Satellite Baku is a double-gender competition, which is also the final stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour. France’s Maxime Thiercy and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat lead the men’s entry lists with Azerbaijan hoping for a good performance from their teams – Ruslan Aliyev/Vusal Gurbanov and Vadim Kutukov/Parviz Samadov, who hope to use the home-court advantage to provide the home fans with something to cheer about.
Russia’s Svetlana Kholomina/Olga Motrich are the favourites of the women’s competition – with France’s Alexia Richard/Margaux Carrere hoping to repeat their gold-medal winning performance from earlier this summer at the CEV Satellite held in Siófok, Hungary. Azerbaijan’s Fidan Aghammamadova/Dunya Valiyeva, Nazila Salimova/Viktoria Aghakishiyeva and Ilhama Aliyeva/Irina Abbaszade are hoping to deliver a good performance before the home crowd.
