First-ever CEV Satellite in Satu Mare underway under ideal weather conditions
2017 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Satu Mare
Satu Mare, Romania, September 21, 2017. The first-ever CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite held in Satu Mare, Romania started on Thursday with sunny weather and some exciting games in the qualification round of the women’s-only competition.
The weather was extremely Beach Volleyball-friendly on the first day of CEV Satellite in Satu Mare featuring qualification matches for the Main Draw. The big winner of the day was France, with as many as three teams, who were able to progress to the next stage. Spectacular and especially appreciated by the over 200 spectators in attendance was Belgium's victory, as Julie De Beule/Nina Coolman beat top-seeds Aleksandra Gromadowska/Jagoda Gruszczynska of Poland 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-12).
A dramatic match was also the one featuring Sweden and Switzerland, with Sigrid Simonsson/Tadva Yoken emerging victorious 2-1, after Switzerland had taken the first set and were leading 19-17 in the second. Unfortunately, Kim Huber/Tatjana Greber could not close the match in their favour and ended up losing the tiebreak 9-15.
The spectators enjoyed the final match of the day as well, with Slovenia’s Tjasa Jancar/Tjasa Kotnik – winners of an international tournament in Oslo in early September – recording a 21-18, 21-18 victory over Denmark’s Helle Sondergård and Simone Marie Okholm Hansen to secure their spot in the Main Draw.
