Ljubljana, Slovenia, July 19, 2017. After three international Beach Volleyball exhibition tournaments, the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia decided that it was finally time to take the next step and bring some a high-level event to their country. Over the next few days there will be no less than three events organised in two venues, at Črnuče and Kongresni trg from 20th to 22nd July.
“Hosting the men’s CEV Masters and women’s CEV Satellite, together with the CEV Youth Continental Cup at the same time is a great opportunity to promote Beach Volleyball in our country and to offer the best Slovenian beach volleyball players a chance to prove themselves among the best European couples. I am convinced that the event in the centre of Ljubljana will be a real Beach Volleyball spectacle,” the President of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia Metod Ropret said in front of almost 30 media representatives gathered at the press conference in Ljubljana today.
"On behalf of the European Volleyball Confederation, I would like to express my gratitude to the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia and all involved for the organisation of these events. Beach Volleyball is a great sport and with this kind of event we can expand this sport from the beaches to the city centers. I wish the best of luck to all players,” CEV Technical Supervisor Laos Lukas added.
“Our motivation, wishes and ambitions are on a really high level. We have waited so long to get the opportunity to play on home soil. We can hardly wait for everything to start tomorrow,” Slovenian Beach Volleyball player Jan Pokeršnik said just a day after he and his partner Nejc Zemljak found out that they will be among the teams which will fight for the European titles at the CEV European Beach Volleyball Championship Final in Jurmala, Latvia.
“We have already played in the qualification tournaments for FIVB Major in Poreč, Croatia and CEV Satellite in Siofok, Hungary this season, but we are both really excited to challenge the best European teams here, in Slovenia. We hope for loud support from the tribunes and we will try to give our best. Let’s hope it will be enough for a solid result,” said Nina Lovšin, who joined forces with Lea Gostinčar at the beginning of the season.
You can follow the event via social media with regular updates also being added to the CEV website.
