CEV Satellite Göteborg just a few days away
2017 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Göteborg
Göteborg, Sweden, April 11, 2017. The first CEV Satellite tournament of the 2017 season is just a few days away from ‘invading’ Göteborg, Sweden, and the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena. Among the teams who will compete in the Main Draw there are two Swedish pairs, who will be playing on their very home soil.
The city of Göteborg is getting ready to host the very first CEV Satellite tournament, which has ever taken place on Swedish soil. The historic event will take place from April 13 to 16 in the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena.
Some of Europe’s most talented and competitive teams are travelling to Göteborg to fight for the top honours at the so-called Beach Centre, an arena which offers great event and training opportunities all year around and has 16 heated indoor courts and six outdoor courts. Tournaments like NEVZA Beach Sweden, the Swedish Beach Tour and many others are taking place here annually.
The tournament starts Thursday with the qualification round as a total of 16 teams fight for the eight remaining spots in the Main Draw.
Two of the teams who are already seeded in the Main Draw are getting ready to play on their very home soil. Martin Appelgren/Simon Boman, representing hosts Göteborg Beachvolley Club (GBC), are the top-ranked team in Sweden. Last year they established themselves on the international Beach Volleyball stage as well, playing both frequently and with great success.
“Playing a CEV Satellite at home in front of friends and family will be an amazing experience. It is such an incredible feeling. We could not be any happier to get this opportunity. At the same time, we feel very proud of our fantastic club, as they have managed to pull off an event of this magnitude,” Appelgren and Boman said.
Fellow friends and teammates, Alexander Herrmann/Alexander Annerstedt, will also start the tournament from the Main Draw. The tournament in Göteborg acts as their first appearance in a CEV Satellite.
“This is a dream coming true. It is the biggest Beach Volleyball tournament which has ever taken place in Sweden - and we get the opportunity to be a part of it. We are really looking forward to getting started,” Herrmann and Annerstedt acknowledge.
