Göteborg, Sweden, April 6, 2017. The city of Göteborg is getting ready to host the very first CEV Satellite tournament, which has ever taken place on Swedish soil. The historic event will take place from April 13 to 16 at the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena.
The snow is fighting an impossible war against the weather gods as the spring has finally arrived to Sweden. A sure sign of that is that the country’s Beach Volleyball season is getting ready to take off.
With that being said, it is still a little too cold to play outside - even for most of the hard-core players who usually don’t hesitate to take on even the worst of weather conditions. Luckily for them - and all other ‘beach bums’ all over Sweden - the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena is located in the Scandinavian country.
Göteborg Beachvolley Club and the Swedish Volleyball Federation are getting ready to host a CEV Satellite for the very first time.
“This is a huge thing for us - a milestone for both the Swedish Volleyball Federation and Göteborg Beachvolley Club, which is the biggest Beach Volleyball club in Sweden. We are happy and honoured,” says Bengt Wicksell, Secretary General of the Swedish Volleyball Federation.
Next week, some of Europe’s most talented and competitive teams are travelling to Göteborg to fight for the top honours at the so-called Beach Centre, an arena which offers great event and training opportunities all year around and has 16 warmed up indoor courts and six outdoor courts. Tournaments like NEVZA Beach Sweden, the Swedish Beach Tour and many others are taking place here annually.
“Getting a tournament of this magnitude to Sweden is an important step in Göteborg Beachvolley Club’s strive to develop elite players. This is a real breakthrough for Beach Volleyball in Sweden,” says Anders Nordahl, who will act as the Promotion & Marketing Director during the tournament.
