800 children attend Iceland’s largest ever school Volleyball event

Kópavogur, Iceland, October 11, 2019. There was a cheering youthful crowd attending Iceland’s biggest school Volleyball festival in Kópavogur, a town lying in the outskirts of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, this past Wednesday, October 9. For Iceland’s Volleyball family, it was a truly successful event.
The national volleyball federation of Iceland (BLI) teamed up with the UMSK Sports District to deliver the festival featuring as many as 800 children. The event took place in Iceland’s biggest indoor hall, Kórinn, on artificial grass, which offers a safe environment for children to play.

In total, 35 courts were in operation during the event that offered fun, music, entertainment and involved a large number of physical education teachers as well. The atmosphere was motivating for the 10 to 12 year-old pupils supported by a large number of volunteers, making the festival a truly memorable occasion. Getting the group together involved many buses transporting children from the neighbouring schools and major planning and coordination, including total commitment from the federation’s side.
“The aim for the future is to maintain good contact with the teachers and to grow the event year by year,” stated BLI Secretary General, Sævar Már Gudmundsson, whose work enjoyed the support provided by Óli Thór Júlíusson, BLI Project Manager responsible for School Volleyball.
