TOURS VB host European Cups rookies in first round of CEV Cup semis

Tours, France, March 24, 2017. TOURS VB will host Germany’s United Volleys RHEINMAIN on Tuesday, March 28 in the first round of the semi-finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. The gold medal winners from the 2005 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League are chasing their second European trophy but will first have to take on the European Cups rookies from Germany in the semis.
TOURS VB have a clean sheet so far in this year’s CEV Volleyball Cup after claiming their home and away matches with Calcit KAMNIK, Volejbal BRNO, PAOK THESSALONIKI and ČEZ KARLOVARSKO. The United Volleys RHEINMAIN boast a similar record, as they swept aside OK Mladost BRČKO, Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD and Lindemans AALST on the way to reaching the semis.
On top of this, both TOURS VB and the United Volleys RHEINMAIN finished the regular season of their respective national leagues in third place. Even though they are making their debut in the European Cups, the Germans are a hard nut to crack and they will be trying to use the home-court advantage on April 1 when the second round of the semis takes place at Fraport Arena in Frankfurt.
TOURS VB do not know yet if they will be able to count on Australian outside hitter Adam White, who suffered an injury when playing ČEZ KARLOVARSKO in the Czech Republic and has not come back yet. However, the French team captained by Spanish setter Guillermo Hernan Ruperez will be highly motivated as they hope to progress to the final stage of the competition to play there Italy’s TRENTINO Diatec or Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL of Turkey.
