Dinamo MOSCOW rout Fenerbahce to set their sight on CEV Cup semis
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Moscow, Russia, March 4, 2015. Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW comfortably claimed their home match on schedule for the first leg of the Challenge Round in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men cruising to a 3:0 victory (25-16, 25-19, 25-18) over Fenerbahce SK. ISTANBUL of Turkey. About 2,000 fans were in attendance at Dinamo Sports Palace where the hosts delivered a superb performance to get the right edge for the return match coming up next week in Turkey.

After their participation was questioned almost up to the last moment, the medical staff of Dinamo was able to get Ivan Zaytsev, Artem Ermakov and Dmitry Shcherbinin all back on track so that they could join the actions against Fenerbahce. Only Alexander Markin could not make it due to illness, but other than that Dinamo squared off with their best roster for the big match with Fenerbahce.

The start of the first set was not that easy for the home heroes with Pavel Kruglov being stopped by a double block and the score remaining tight. After a close opening, Maxwell Holt dictated the pace of the game for the Muscovites who called for the first technical time-out leading by 8:4. Dinamo kept on increasing their advantage thereby forcing Fenerbahce’s head coach Daniel Castellan into another break. It did not sort the desired effects with Dinamo speedily bringing the first set to a close by the score of 25-16.

Fenerbahce were off to a flying start in the second set leading by 4:1 but after a time-out asked by their mentor, Dinamo’s players quickly drew level and eventually flipped the tables around. The second set was eventually finished by Dinamo at 25-19 with a block on the Serbian-born star opposite of Fenerbahce, Ivan Miljkovic.

Emin Gök played just brilliant for Fenerbahce in the early stages of the third set but Dinamo responded with an imperious Yury Berezhko who top scored in the end with 15 points. The fate of the set – and hence also of the match – was decided after the second technical time-out and it was Berezhko who closed it out at 25-18 for the final 3:0. With this result, Dinamo will only need to take two sets from the return match that is scheduled for next Wednesday in Istanbul to make the semis and play there the eventual winners of the Belgian derby starring Precura ANTWERP and Euphony ASSE-LENNIK.

“We delivered a good performance tonight making only a few mistakes,” said Pavel Kruglov after the match. “Our block and serve worked especially well. We did not expect to win this match so easily. Fenerbahce definitely played better than they did tonight in the matches they had with Belogorie BELGOROD in the prelims of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Today many of their star players did not join the actions and so I expect a much more difficult game next week in Turkey.”
