News from the national federations

Izmir, Turkey, April 14, 2014.  Halkbank ANKARA, runner-up of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men, added another honor to a great season by winning Turkey’s Teledunya Super Cup.  In the last match of the Final Four tournament in Izmir, which also happened to be a direct battle for the trophy, Halkbank overpowered the 2014 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup winner Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL by 3:2 (26-24, 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9).

The match started with both sides trading runs and Halkbank was on the lucky side at the first technical time-out - 8-7.  With some good serving from Matey Kaziyski, Halkbank jumped to a 14-10 lead.  However, Fenerbahce Grundig did not give up and narrowed the gap to 17-16; then tied the score at 19-19 with some good serving from Ivan Miljkovic and even took the lead at 21-19. Halkbank gathered up to level the score at 22-22 once more and then won the first set by 26-24.

In the second set Fenerbahce Grundig was 13-10 ahead and coach Radostin Stoytchev took his first time-out.  But things did not work out for Halkbank - at 21-15 Fenerbahce Grundig was 6 points ahead of Halkbank and won the second set by 25-17 balancing the score at 1:1.

Fenerbahce Grundig had a good start of the third set and took an 8-6 lead, extending it to 16-13.  The team from Istanbul kept its good motivation and with the perfect spikes of Felipe Fonteles won the third set by 25-21.

In the fourth set of the match Halkbank was 8-6 ahead.  With some good offensive efforts by Fonteles and Miljkovic, Fenerbahce Grundig managed to tie the score at 13-13, but that was not enough.  Halkbank replied with Osmany Juantorena’s flawless performance at the end to win the set by 25-21, moving the match to a tie-breaker.

Halkbank had a fast start in the fifth set and jumped to a 9-3 lead before winning by 15-9 and triumphing with Turkey’s national cup.
